Our Story
Emily was born and raised in Michigan, USA, and became involved in music from a young age. She can play over 10 different instruments and loves to sing! She has a bachelors and masters degree in music education, a Michigan JQ Music teaching certificate, and worked for six years as an elementary music teacher. She loves working with children of all ages, and has also been employed as a nanny and a live-in Au Pair. She recently changed careers to human resources with the goal of having more energy and time for starting a family.
Daniel was born and raised in Germany. He has a bachelors of science in business administration and two masters degrees, a master of business administration and a master of science in international business. He is a team leader in purchasing for an international automotive supplier. He grew up in a village of less than 1,000 inhabitants in south-west Germany near the French border, and decided at the age of twenty-five to take an internship in metro-Detroit to broaden his worldview and life experiences. While he was living in the US, he traveled to numerous large cities, including Chicago, Las Vegas, New York, and Washington D.C.
We met in the summer of 2013 when Daniel had an internship in the United States, and we started spending all of our time together. Eventually, Daniel had to move back to Germany, so Emily decided to move to Germany as well. Both of us are bilingual, fluent in German and English. We married in 2016 at a vineyard in Germany and relocated from Stuttgart to the metro-Detroit area. We own a 3 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath home with plenty of space for a child. Both of us are able to work from home now, which offers us more flexibility with our working hours.
Traveling is one of our greatest passions and hobbies as a couple, and we have been to 28 US states and 18 countries worldwide. We love visiting national parks, and going on hikes, seeing wildlife, or finding waterfalls. We hope to show our child the world, introducing them to various cultures, foods, and peoples. We believe that travel helps expand a person's view, and helps grow empathy and compassion for others. Daniel is scuba certified, and Emily is working towards her certification so that we can also explore underwater together.
We have two pets, a cat named Blue who was born in 2018, and a mini-goldendoodle dog named Bear who was born in 2020. They are an important part of our family, and would welcome our newest member of the family. Blue loves looking out the window at birds and squirrels in the yard, or curling up on our laps at the end of the day. Bear has attended basic training, advanced training, and agility courses. He loves to meet people and make new friends. We believe that animals enrich the lives of children, and teach children empathy and responsibility. Both of our pets are taken to the vet annually for checkups, and are updated on their vaccinations.
